Blair Douglas Chapman (* 13. June 1956 in Lloydminster , Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player , who from 1973 to 1983 for the Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League on the position of right winger played.

Career

Chapman began his career as a junior player with the Saskatoon Blades in the Western Canada Hockey League , where he played with Bernie Federko . But although Federko attracted much more attention in the offensive area, it was Chapman who preferred the scouts on their wish-list for the draft. In the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft , the Pittsburgh Penguins selected him in the first round in second place and in the 1976 WHA Amateur Draft , the Edmonton Oilers even used the "First Overall" draft law to secure the rights to Chapman. After Pat Price , with whom he played for a year in Saskatoon, he was already the second WHA top draft pick to come from the Blades.

Since two professional teams from two different professional leagues had the transfer rights to his person through the draft, the Canadian had an offer from the Pittsburgh Penguins from the National Hockey League as well as an offer from the Edmonton Oilers from the World Hockey Association . Chapman decided, although the offer from the WHA was financially more lucrative, to switch to the Penguins in the NHL, where the sporting perspective was greater. In his rookie year in the 1976/77 season , he earned a regular place in the squad. After a mixed third season with only 18 scorer points, Pittsburgh transferred him to the St. Louis Blues shortly after the start of the 1979/80 season in exchange for Bob Stewart , where his former teammate Federko also played. In St. Louis, Chapman's attacking statistics improved again and he had his best year with 51 points in 64 games.

Due to a back injury, he missed large parts of the 1981/82 season . After a few games on the farm team with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles in the Central Hockey League , he returned to the NHL, but his comeback lasted only 39 games.

Chapman ended his career after the 1982/83 season . In seven seasons in the NHL, he played 402 games and scored 231 points.
