Kevin Hoogsteen (born December 17, 1972 in Thunder Bay , Ontario ) is a former Dutch - Canadian ice hockey player who played for the EHC Straubing in the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey from 1990 to 2006, among others . His younger brother David was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Kevin Hoogsteen began his career as a hockey player in the junior team Thunder Bay Flyers, for which he was active from 1990 to 1993 in the United States Hockey League . He then attended the University of North Dakota for four years , for whose ice hockey team the winger played parallel in the National Collegiate Athletic Association , before moving to EHC Straubing in the third-class 2nd League South for the 1997/98 season. After a year with SG Cortina in the Italian Serie A , the Canadian with a Dutch passport signed again in Straubing. With the team he rose in the 1999/2000 season in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga , in which he then played for Bayern for a year.
For the 2001/02 season , Hoogsteen signed with the Nijmegen Tigers from the Eredivisie , but finished them with the Fresno Falcons in the West Coast Hockey League . With 54 points for the Dutch, he was also top scorer in the league and top scorer with 25 goals. From 2002 to 2005, the right- shooter was on the ice for the Amsterdam Bulldogs , with whom he won the Dutch championship and the Dutch cup competition three times in a row . Following the 2005/06 season, which he had spent at HC Eppan Pirates in the second-rate Italian Serie A2 , the Dutch international ended his career at the age of 33.
International
For the Netherlands , Hoogsteen took part in the B World Championships in 2004 and 2006, as well as qualifying for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
