The 1996/97 season was the 37th season of the Eredivisie , the highest Dutch ice hockey division . The champions were the Nijmegen Tigers for the fourth time in the club's history . With the Phantoms Deurne from Antwerp , a Belgian team also took part in the games of the honor division this season.

In the main round, the eight teams played 14 games each. The four best-placed teams qualified for the final round, in which the pairings for the playoffs in which the champions were played were determined. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
