The University of Alaska Anchorage (also UAA is called) is a state university in Anchorage in the US state of Alaska . With more than 17,000 students, it is the largest location in the University of Alaska system . She is a member of the University of the Arctic . The college association's original campus is the smaller University of Alaska Fairbanks . In addition to the main campus in Anchorage , the University of Alaska Anchorage runs four community colleges: Matanuska-Susitna College, Kenai Peninsula College, Kodiak College, and Prince William Sound Community College.

history

The university was founded in 1954 as the Anchorage Community College . It achieved college status in 1965 and has had its current name since 1976. The university in its current form has existed since the merger of various educational institutions in 1987.

Sports

The UAA's sports teams are known as Seawolves . The college is a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference .
