Career
Jay Beagle began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with the Calgary Royals, for whom he was active from 2003 to 2005 in the Alberta Junior Hockey League . He then attended the University of Alaska Anchorage for two years , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . At the end of the 2006/07 season , the winger made his professional hockey debut for the Idaho Steelheads from the ECHL , with whom he immediately won the Kelly Cup . In the following three years he played for the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League . With the Bears he won the Calder Cup in the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons . At the same time, he made his debut for the Washington Capitals , Hershey's cooperation partner, in the National Hockey League in the 2008/09 season .
Beagle has been regularly on the ice for the Washington Capitals in the NHL since the 2010/11 season . On October 13, 2011, he was so badly injured in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins in a fist fight with Arron Asham that he then had to pause for 31 games. After his return to the NHL team of the Capitals, however, he was able to quickly fight back his regular place.
In the 2018 playoffs , Beagle won the first Stanley Cup in franchise history with the Capitals , while at the same time becoming the first player to win the Kelly Cup, the Calder Cup and the Stanley Cup. However, he did not receive a new contract in Washington afterwards, so he left the Capitals after eight years and signed a four-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks .
