Career
Oscar Fantenberg was born in Ljungby and played there in his youth for IF Troja-Ljungby , with whose J20 he made it from the J20 Elit to the J20 SuperElit in 2008 , the highest Swedish junior league. There he ran on in the following year, while he made his debut in three games for the men's team of the club in the second-rate Allsvenskan . The defender then moved to HV71 for the 2009/10 season , where he was mainly used in the SuperElit and sporadically with the men's team in the Elitserien and on loan in the Allsvenskan in the following two years ; at IK Oskarshamn and at his home club IF Troja-Ljungby. In the 2011/12 season, Fantenberg finally established himself in the Elitserien and thus in the highest professional league in Sweden, before he led the team as assistant captain in the 2013/14 season . Nevertheless, the defender moved within the league to Frölunda HC in April 2014 , with whom he won the Swedish championship and the Champions Hockey League the following year .
With these successes and participation in the 2016 World Cup, Fantenberg now also attracted attention outside of Sweden and therefore joined HK Sochi from the Continental Hockey League (KHL) with a one-year contract in May 2016 . There the Swede convinced with 23 scorer points from 44 games and was appointed to the KHL All-Star Game during the season , in which he was unable to participate due to injury. After the 2016/17 season, Fantenberg left the KHL again when he signed a one-year entry contract with the Los Angeles Kings from the National Hockey League (NHL) in May 2017 .
As part of the following pre-season season, Fantenberg earned a place in the Kings line-up and made his debut in the NHL in October 2017. He then spent the season in roughly equal parts in the NHL and in the American Hockey League (AHL), with the Kings farm team , the Ontario Reign . He then received another one-year contract in Los Angeles in May 2018 and finally established himself in the NHL squad of the Southern Californians. In February 2019, the Swede was given to the Calgary Flames in exchange for a conditional four-round vote in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft . There he ended the season and then joined the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent in July 2019 .

Fantenberg made his debut for the Swedish national team at the Euro Hockey Tour 2012/13 , before he represented the Tre Kronor for the first time at a major tournament as part of the 2016 World Cup and finished sixth with the team.
