Career
Stecher spent part of his junior career between 2010 and 2013 in the second-rate British Columbia Hockey League with the Penticton Vees. There he was, however, one of the best players in his position and received numerous awards over the course of three years. Outstanding, however, was the 2011/12 season when he won the triple of the Fred Page Cup , Doyle Cup and Royal Bank Cup with the Vees . In the summer of 2013, the defender moved to the University of North Dakota , where he spent three years in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association , for the university's ice hockey team.
In April 2016, the undrafted free agent was signed by the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League . They used him at the beginning of the 2016/17 season in their farm team , the Utica Comets , in the American Hockey League , before he made his NHL debut for the Canucks a little later. Ultimately, he played a total of 71 games for the Canucks in his rookie season and got 24 points scorer .
International
Stecher made his international debut in the jersey of the Canadian national team at the 2019 World Cup in Slovakia , where he won the silver medal with the team.
