organization

The UArctic / UArktis is governed by a representation system of the individual sub-members. This has gradually developed since it was founded. The Rectors' Forum was the last to be established.

The UArctic Council, which consists of representatives from all member organizations, forms part of this representation system. This essentially forms the legislature of the university board. The Council elects the Toyon , who works on current issues, comparable to the executive , the Rector (President) as the main representative to the outside world. Currently this is Lars Kullerud ( UNEP-GRID Norway ). The secretariat looks after the website, the newsletter and other media appearances of the UArctic. It is located in Rovaniemi ( University of Lapland ), Finland . The Rectors' Forum also exists.

Programs

  • Bachelor of Circumpolar Studies , with the opportunity to learn more about the country, people, culture of the Arctic, the development of tourism in the north, indigenous peoples in the Arctic and climate protection.
  • UArctic Atlas , an online atlas in close cooperation with UNEP / GRID-Arendal, a node in the network of the United Nations Environment Program-Global Resource Information Database of the UN environmental organization ( UNEP ). Scott Forrest (2013) is the project manager of the UArctic Atlas. Further results are also published in UNEP / GRID-Arendal.
