The Athabasca University is a university in Athabasca , Canada , the courses and university degrees via distance learning offers. Founded in 1970, it is recognized as the leading distance learning university in North America . She is a member of the University of the Arctic .

Athabasca University is the only Canadian university that does not impose any requirements on previous school qualifications for admission. It is primarily used by students who are unable to study at an ordinary university outside of Canada due to disabilities, family responsibilities, full-time employment, professional sports, or military service. The university offers more than 60 degrees in English and French and has over 30,000 students enrolled. It was the first Canadian university whose degrees were recognized in the United States . 260,000 graduates have graduated since the university was founded.

Accreditations

Athabasca University reports to the Minister of Advanced Education and is funded by the Province of Alberta. The university may award degrees up to a master’s degree, which is regulated by the Post-Secondary Learning Act .

The university is accredited in the United States by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
