The Université de Sherbrooke is a public, French-speaking university in Sherbrooke and Longueuil , Québec , Canada .

The college was founded in 1954 as a French-speaking Catholic University in an English-speaking environment. In 1975 a lay rector of the university was for the first time and the pure Catholic reference was given up, except for the department of theology. There are approximately 41,000 students in 46 Bachelor, 48 Master and 27 PhD programs.
