University of King's College

The University of King's College is a state university in Halifax , Nova Scotia , Canada . It is the oldest university establishment in Canada and the first English-speaking university in the Commonwealth outside of the UK .

The college was founded in 1789 as King's Collegiate School in Windsor, Nova Scotia by the Anglican Community . After a major fire, the college was relocated to Halifax in 1920 and operations resumed with the support of Dalhousie University . There are courses in the arts, humanities, science, music and journalism. One focus of the university are the journalistic programs.
