The Victoria University, Toronto is a college of the University of Toronto in Toronto , Ontario , Canada .

The college was founded in 1836 and named after Queen Victoria . The forerunner was the Upper Canada Academy of the Wesleyan Methodist Church . The Victoria University was created in 1884 through the merger of Victoria College and Albert College in Belleville, Ontario. In 1890 Victoria University merged with the University of Toronto .

Today's Victoria University with approximately 3,000 students consists of Emmanuel College, which offers theological studies at university level and is one of the member colleges of the Toronto School of Theology , and Victoria College , one of the seven undergraduate colleges in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences from the University of Toronto with training in the humanities, social sciences, arts, life sciences, physical and mathematical sciences, education and philosophy.
