The Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR) is a French-speaking state university in the Canadian province of Québec . It is headquartered in Rimouski and has a subsidiary campus in Lévis . It belongs to the network of the Université du Québec . It serves the training and research needs of the Bas-Saint-Laurent , Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Côte-Nord regions .

The UQAR was founded in 1969 and took over the training of teachers and nurses, which was previously directed by the Ursulines . There were also new courses in natural sciences, humanities, business administration and engineering. The research focus of the University are the Oceanography , the regional development and the "Nordicité" (Scientific research in northern Canada).

The main building is the former Ursuline monastery, which was founded in 1906. The building was constructed in 1938 after a fire destroyed the previous structure in 1937. The building complex was then expanded by the Ursulines and later by the university.
