The college was founded in 1827 by the Anglican Bishop John Strachan as King's College and was also run by the Church of England . In 1849 the college became part of the University of Toronto . In 1851 the college was given independent university status by Queen Victoria . In 1852 the Anglican Diocesan Theological Institute was integrated. Since 1900 they worked again with the University of Toronto .
With around 2,000 students, the college focuses on interdisciplinary courses in areas such as ethics, society and law, immunology and international relations. Degrees in theology are possible at graduate level.
