history
The provincial government decided to establish a new university in the northern part of the province, which was founded on June 22, 1990. Shortly after it began teaching in 1992 and 1993, the university offered some courses in rented rooms, as no campus had yet been established at that time. In 1994 Queen Elizabeth II officially opened the university in a ceremony on the newly built and ready- to-move Prince George Campus , which was completed after two years of construction.
