The Université du Québec à Montréal ( UQAM ) is a French-speaking state university in Montreal . It was founded on April 9, 1969 through the merger of the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal, the Collège Sainte-Marie and three other universities and belongs to the network of the Université du Québec . 41,000 students study at six faculties or the school for management, the “École des sciences de la gestion” (ESG) with 13,000 students. They are taught by 1,141 professors and 2,310 tutors.

The campus was designed by Dimitri Dimakopoulos and is located in downtown Montreal , near the Berri-UQAM metro station . Several buildings are directly connected to this station through the underground city of Montreal . UQAM was founded to democratize access to higher education.
