Canadian Association of Research Libraries
The Canadian Association of Research Libraries , CARL for short, or Association des bibliothèques de recherche du Canada (ABRC) is an association of 29 university libraries founded in 1976. There are also Library and Archives Canada and the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information .
The aim of the association, which consists of 31 institutions and is based in Ottawa, is to promote research and exchange. For this purpose, CARL offers a network through which library resources are made accessible to all participants and users. This is primarily done via the network's website. The individual libraries should in turn be given opportunities for national, regional and local research funding. The president is Donna Bourne-Tyson.
