Adrienne Clarkson
Adrienne Clarkson , PC , CC ( born Adrienne Louise Poy on February 10, 1939 in Hong Kong ) is a journalist , writer and diplomat . In 1942 she came to Canada with her parents . From October 7, 1999 to September 27, 2005 she was the Governor General of Canada and represented Queen Elizabeth II as head of state in this office . She has been married to John Ralston Saul since 1999 .
In 1988 she received an honorary doctorate from Dalhousie University .
