The Mississippi Surge are an American ice hockey team based in Biloxi , Mississippi . The team has played in the Southern Professional Hockey League since 2009 .
history
The team was founded in 2009 as a franchise of the Southern Professional Hockey League . In Biloxi, they filled the void that the Mississippi Sea Wolves from the ECHL had left in the city following the 2008-09 season. In their premiere season, the Mississippi Surge took first place in the 2009/10 season straight away after the regular season, for which they received the William B. Coffey Trophy . In the subsequent playoffs for the President's Cup, however, they were defeated by the Huntsville Havoc with a sweep in the best-of-five series. Also in the 2010/11 season , the Surge were the team with the highest points in the regular season and this time prevailed against the Augusta RiverHawks in three matches in the finals of the President's Cup .
Trainer
In its premiere season, the American Steffon Walby , who belongs to the owner group Coast Hockey LLC, was both head coach and general manager of the team. Before that he was a player and head coach of the Mississippi Sea Wolves in the ECHL.
