The Richmond Renegades were an American ice hockey team from Richmond , Virginia . The team played in the Southern Professional Hockey League from 2006 to 2009 .

history

The team was founded in 2006 as a franchise of the Southern Professional Hockey League . In town, they filled the void left by the United Hockey League's Richmond Riverdogs that same year . The Renegades themselves were named after a team of the same name from the ECHL . In the SPHL, they belonged to the mediocrity of the league in the three years of its existence and took fourth and fifth place respectively. In the playoffs they failed in the first two seasons in the first round (against the Knoxville Ice Bears and Fayetteville FireAntz ), while they missed this in the 2008/09 season. The franchise was then dissolved.
