The Jacksonville Barracudas were an American ice hockey team from Jacksonville , Florida . The team played in various professional leagues from 2002 to 2008.
history
The team was founded in 2002 as a franchise for the first-ever Atlantic Coast Hockey League . In this they finished sixth and thus last place in their premiere season, which means they missed the playoffs. After the league was dissolved after only one year, the team moved to the World Hockey Association 2 , in which they finished first after the regular season and became champions in the playoffs. The WHA2, which was named after the World Hockey Association , which was in direct competition with the National Hockey League from 1972 to 1979 , only existed for one season. Again the Barracudas joined their successor league and played from 2004 to 2008 in the Southern Professional Hockey League . In this they were eliminated in 2007 and 2008 only in the playoff finals and were subject to the Fayetteville FireAntz and Knoxville Ice Bears . Following the 2007/08 season, the franchise ceased gaming.
Trainer
From 2003 to 2006, former Canadian NHL professional Ron Duguay coached the Barracudas. He had replaced his compatriot Kurt Wickenheiser , who had previously been banned several times for indiscipline by the league management of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League. Most recently, from 2006 to 2008, the team was headed by Rick Allain , who had previously been able to gain experience as head coach in the Canadian junior league Ontario Hockey League .
Venues
The team played their home games from 2004 to 2007 at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena , which at that time held 16,000 seats at ice hockey games. For the 2007/08 season, the team moved to the much smaller Jacksonville Ice , which only had a capacity of 1,200 for ice hockey games.
