The Bloomington Blaze are an American ice hockey team from Bloomington , Illinois . The team has played in the Southern Professional Hockey League since 2013 .

history

The Bloomington Prairie Thunders from the Central Hockey League stopped playing after the 2010/11 season . The void the team left in the city was then filled by the Bloomington Blaze, who started playing in the Central Hockey League as an expansion team for the 2011/12 season . The team plays like the Prairie Thunders in the US Cellular Coliseum . The name of the team was chosen by the fans themselves. The Canadian Jason Christie was introduced as the head coach of the new franchise , who led the PrairieThunder into the first playoff round last year. However, Christie was signed by the Ontario Reign from the ECHL before the start of the season and then replaced by Paul Gardner .

For the 2013/14 season the team was accepted into the Southern Professional Hockey League .
