The Augusta RiverHawks are an American ice hockey team from Augusta , Georgia . The team has played in the Southern Professional Hockey League since the 2010-11 season but has been reported as inactive for the 2013-14 season.

history

The Augusta RiverHawks were founded in the spring of 2010 as a franchise of the Southern Professional Hockey League , in which they will start playing in the 2010/11 season. In Augusta, the team fills the void left by the Augusta Lynx , who were active in the ECHL from 1998 to 2008 . Like the Lynx, the River Hawks will play their home games in the James Brown Arena , which has a capacity of just over 9,000 spectators. The team's first head coach was the Canadian Brad Ralph , who was an active player for the Phoenix Coyotes in the National Hockey League . He also played for Augusta Lynx in the ECHL for a year.

In its inaugural season, after finishing the regular season in second place behind Mississippi Surge , the team reached the finals of the President's Cup and lost them in three games against the Surge.
