The Asheville Aces were an American ice hockey team based in Asheville , North Carolina . The team played in the Southern Professional Hockey League in the 2004/05 season .

history

The team was founded in 2004 as a franchise of the Southern Professional Hockey League . It filled the void that the United Hockey League's Asheville Smoke had left in the city when it broke up in 2002. In their only season, the Asheville Aces finished seventh of eight places with 38 points and thus missed the playoffs for the President's Cup . Only the team of the Winston-Salem Polar Twins had a worse record with 28 points. After just one year, the franchise stopped gaming again in 2005.
