Pee Dee Cyclones (2005 to 2007)
The franchise was founded in Florence , South Carolina in 2005 to represent the Pee Dee region under the name Pee Dee Cyclones in the operations of the Southern Professional Hockey League . The team initially played their home games in the Florence Civic Center , which holds 7,426 spectators . In its inaugural season, the team finished sixth out of seven teams in the regular season . This meant participation in the play-offs , but there the Cyclones failed in the first round at the Knoxville Ice Bears . In the 2006/07 season, the franchise missed the finals with seventh and last place. Since no new contract with the Civic Center could be concluded, the team moved to Winston-Salem , North Carolina , where they continued to play as the Twin City Cyclones .
Twin City Cyclones (2007 to 2009)
In the Twin City, the Caclones moved to the LJVM Coliseum Annex , which offers space for 3,500 spectators at ice hockey games and was the home ground of the Winston-Salem Polar Twins in the SPHL in the 2004/05 season . The 2007/08 season ended the franchise in fifth place, but failed again in the first round of the play-offs. After the Cyclones had only occupied last place in the following season, the team owners decided on March 31, 2009 to dissolve the team in view of the international financial crisis .
