Pee Dee

Pee Dee refers to the northeast region of the US state South Carolina . The name is derived from the central waterway, the Pee Dee River , which in turn was named after the original inhabitants of the region, the Native Americans of the Pee Dee tribe . The landscape of the region is characterized by the Grand Strand with its coastal towns and beaches, the characteristic bays of the Carolinas, marshes, swamps and wooded sandy hills.

The center of the region is the small town of Florence ; the Grand Strand includes larger towns such as Myrtle Beach , Conway, and Garden City Beach .
