Ronald Duguay (born July 6, 1957 in Greater Sudbury , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and coach who worked for the New York Rangers , Detroit Red Wings , Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings from 1973 to 1996 played in the National Hockey League .
Career
Ron Duguay began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with the Sudbury Wolves , for whom he was active from 1973 to 1977 in the Canadian junior league Ontario Hockey Association . The attacker was then drafted by both the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League and the Winnipeg Jets from the World Hockey Association . Finally, he decided on the offer of the New York Rangers, for whom he played in the NHL from 1977 to 1983 for a total of six years. It was then given to the Detroit Red Wings together with Eddie Mio and Ed Johnstone in exchange for Willie Huber , Mark Osborne and Mike Blaisdell . This left the right-shooter after three seasons towards the end of the 1985/86 season to join their league rivals Pittsburgh Penguins . Doug Shedden came to Detroit for him .
In Pittsburgh, Duguay played less than a year before returning to the New York Rangers on January 21, 1987 for Chris Kontos . There, too, he only played for one season, and then also with the Los Angeles Kings . For the 1989/90 season , the former junior international was signed by the Mannheim ERC from the ice hockey Bundesliga . After two years with the San Diego Gulls from the International Hockey League , he temporarily ended his career before returning to the West Coast Hockey League team of the same name in 1995 . With this he won the Taylor Cup in the 1995/96 season . After this success, the Canadian only appeared sporadically for a few teams. He also laced his ice skates again in 2001 on the occasion of the Heroes of Hockey Game , which took place as part of the NHL All-Star Games .
As head coach, Duguay coached the Jacksonville Barracudas from 2002 to 2006 . They changed leagues several times within a few years and played in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League , World Hockey Association 2 and Southern Professional Hockey League . With the Barracudas, the former NHL player won the 2004 WHA2 championship. Following the 2005/06 season, he resigned. During the 2008/09 season Duguay returned as an active player on the ice and completed a game each for the Brooklyn Aces and Jersey Rockhoppers in the Eastern Professional Hockey League to support a non-profit organization . He gave an assist in the game for the Brooklyn Aces and ended the game for the Jersey Rockhoppers without a point or penalty.
International
For Canada , Duguay took part in the Junior World Cup in 1977 , where he finished second with his team.
