Christopher account (* 10. December 1963 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player , who in his active period from 1980 to 1998, including for the New York Rangers , Pittsburgh Penguins , Los Angeles Kings and Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League and Revierlöwen Oberhausen played in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Chris Kontos began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League , in which he was active from 1980 to 1982 for the Sudbury Wolves and Toronto Marlboros . In the 1982 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the first round as the 15th player by the New York Rangers . After he had started the 1982/83 season with the Toronto Marlboros in the OHL, he made his debut for the New York Rangers in the NHL during the season. From 1983 to 1985 he was in parallel for the New York Rangers in the NHL and the Tulsa Oilers from the Central Hockey League and the New Haven Nighthawks from the American Hockey League on the ice. The 1985/86 season began the winger with Ilves Tampere in the Finnish SM-liiga and finished it in the AHL with the New Haven Nighthawks.
The 1986/87 season he began again with the New Haven Nighthawks in the AHL and finished it with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL. During the following season he first played for Pittsburgh in the NHL and the Muskegon Lumberjacks from the International Hockey League . In February 1988 he was released from Pittsburgh within the NHL to the Los Angeles Kings , where he played until the end of the season as well as for their AHL farm team New Haven Nighthawks. Most of the 1988/89 season spent the Canadians at the EHC Kloten in the Swiss National League A . After the end of the season in Switzerland he returned for the playoffs to the Los Angeles Kings in the NHL. In the 1989/90 season he appeared again for Los Angeles in the NHL, but could not fully assert himself there, so he spent most of the season with their AHL farm team New Haven Nighthawks.
In the 1990/91 season accounts for the Phoenix Roadrunners in the IHL were on the ice. The following season he was committed by HC Courmaosta from Serie A2 , the second Italian division. In the 1992/93 season he scored 27 goals and 24 assists in 66 games for the newly formed NHL team Tampa Bay Lightning . In the 1993/94 season he stopped professional ice hockey and instead joined Team Canada in its Olympic preparation. For the 1994/95 season , the long-time NHL player stayed in Europe and played for Skellefteå AIK in Sweden in Division 1, which was still second class at the time . From 1995 to 1997 he played in the IHL for the Cincinnati Cyclones , Rafales de Québec and Manitoba Moose . Most recently he played in the 1997/98 season for Revierlöwen Oberhausen in the German Ice Hockey League . For Oberhausen he scored ten goals and four assists in 26 DEL games. He then ended his career at the age of 34.
International
For Canada Kontos took part in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer , where he won the silver medal with his team.

Chris Kontos is of Greek descent and spent part of his childhood in Greece. His son Kristoff Kontos also plays ice hockey.
