The Alabama Slammers were an American ice hockey team from Pelham , Alabama . The team played in the World Hockey Association 2 in the 2003/04 season .

history

The team was founded in 2003 as a franchise of the World Hockey Association 2 , which was held for the first time . In their only season, the Slammers finished second in the WHA2 after the regular season. In the subsequent playoffs, however, they were defeated in the first round by the Macon Trax with a sweep in the best-of-three series. The head coach of the Alabama Slammers was the Canadian Garry Unger , who had played as an active player in the National Hockey League for several years . When the league was dissolved after a year, the Slammers stopped playing.
