Giovanni Vogelaar (born August 6, 1996 in The Hague ) is a Dutch ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Tilburg Trappers in the German Oberliga Nord since 2015 .

Career

Clubs

Giovanni Vogelaar began his career in the youth division of the Eindhoven Kemphanen , in whose second men's team - the Eindhoven High Techs - he played in the Eerste divisie , the second highest Dutch division, at the age of 16 . In the season 2013/14 he played in both the first team of fighting cocks in the Eredivisie , and in Nija talent team , the junior national team, which at that time divisie in the Eerste played for the Dutch youth to gain match practice. In 2014 he moved to league competitor Heerenveen Flyers . At the end of the season he and Jordy Verkiel received the Bennie-Tijnagel-Trofee as the best young player. International

For the Netherlands, Vogelaar took part in the Division II games of the U18 World Championships in 2013 and 2014 and in the U20 World Championships in 2014 , 2015 and 2016 .

The defender made his debut in the men's national team at the Division I tournament in 2015 , when the Dutch were relegated to Division II. He then played there in 2018 , when he was named the top scorer, with the best plus / minus balance and second-best scorer, together with his compatriot Jordy van Oorschot, after his compatriot Ivy van den Heuvel, and was voted the best defensive player of the tournament and thus played a key role in the rise of the Dutchman contributed to Division I. He also represented his colors in qualifying for the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
