Ruud Leeuwesteijn (born January 3, 1997 in Dordrecht ) is a Dutch ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Tilburg Trappers again since 2015 and is part of their first team in the German Oberliga Nord .

Career

Club

Ruud Leeuwesteijn began his career as an ice hockey player with the Dordrecht Lions in his South Holland hometown, where he played in the youth department. In 2012 he moved to the Tilburg Trappers , in whose second team he was used in the first division . In the following two years he also played in the Eerste divisie, first for the "Toekomstteam" of the Dutch association and then for the Eindhoven Kemphanen . In 2015 he returned to Tilburg and was in goal for the North Brabants in the German league . There he and his team were able to achieve second place in the northern relay behind the Füchsen Duisburg . With victories over the Hannover Scorpions , the EV Landshut and the EC Peiting , the playoff final for the German Oberliga championship was reached, which was then won with 3-0 victories against EHC Bayreuth . Also in 2017, when he was mainly used in the second team of the Trappers in the BeNe League , and in 2018 he won the league championship with his team.

National team

Leeuwesteijn took part in the U18 world championships in 2014 and 2015 as well as the U20 world championships in 2016 and 2017 for the Netherlands , when he achieved the third-best catch quota after the Japanese Yujiro Isobe and the Lithuanian Artur Pavliukov , both in Division II.

He was in the squad of the men's national team for the first time at the World Cup in Division II in 2016 , when he and his team were promoted to Division I. Leeuwesteijn himself only played the last third of the 9-0 victory against the later relegated China . He also represented his colors in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
