The ESC Ahaus was an ice hockey club from Ahaus in the Münsterland .
history
In 1980, the Ahaus meeting point was opened in the city center of Ahaus and housed an ice rink. A short time later, the ESC Ahaus association was founded. This started in 1983 in the district league and rose in 1984 to the North Rhine-Westphalia League and a year later to the fourth-class Regionalliga West . After the third rise in a row, the Ahauser reached the Oberliga Nord in 1986 . Led by striker Damian Steiert , who scored 68 goals in 33 games, the team reached the qualifying round for the 2nd Bundesliga North , which ended in bottom of the table. Also in 1988 the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga was missed.
During the summer break, the team was withdrawn to the NRW League for unknown reasons. The ESC was instantly champion and was promoted to the Regionalliga West. In the 1989/90 season, the march into the Oberliga Nord succeeded. As fourth in the table, the ESC Ahaus was athletically qualified for the qualifying round for the 2nd Bundesliga. However, the club decided not to participate. When the ice rink had to be closed in the summer of 1991, the club was dissolved.
