Douglas "Doug" Moffatt (born June 28, 1964 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a former German - Canadian ice hockey player .
Career
The striker Doug Moffatt began his career in the 1981/82 season with the Calgary Spurs in the Alberta Junior Hockey League . From 1982 to 1985 Moffatt played for the Calgary Wranglers in the Western Hockey League , one of the top three junior leagues in Canada. In his final junior year, he made a name for himself with 62 goals in 71 games. He turned professional and played in the 1985/86 season for the Salt Lake Golden Eagles and the Indianapolis Checkers in the International Hockey League .
In the summer of 1986 Doug Moffatt moved to Germany for SV Bayreuth in the 2nd Bundesliga South and finished fifth in the scorer ranking with 40 goals this season. After two years in Bayreuth, Moffatt moved to league rivals EV Füssen for the 1988/89 season , but remained there without a job. In the 1989/90 season Moffatt first played for ERC Westfalen Dortmund in the 2nd Bundesliga North. During the season the Westphalia had to stop playing and Moffatt moved to TuS Geretsried in the Oberliga Süd.
For the 1990/91 season Moffatt returned to North Rhine-Westphalia and played for the ESC Ahaus in the Oberliga Nord. At the end of the season, the ESC Ahaus was dissolved after the ice rink had to close. Moffatt then moved to league rivals EC Dorsten . This club voluntarily withdrew its team from the Oberliga in the summer of 1992 and went down to the NRW League. In 1993, he was promoted to the Regionalliga Nord, before the club was excluded from the game at the end of the 1993/94 season after two non-appearances.
After a one-year interlude at SC Solingen in the 2nd division north, Moffatt returned to EC Dorsten in 1995. Three years later he moved to Herford EC , where he was first champion of the Regionalliga NRW in the 1999/2000 season and then rose to the Oberliga Nord. After only one season in the third division, the club withdrew its team for financial reasons. Moffatt stayed in Herford until the club was dissolved on December 31, 2003 due to bankruptcy . Then Moffatt let his career at EC Dorsten end.
