The Calgary Wranglers were a Canadian ice hockey team from Calgary , Alberta . The team played from 1977 to 1987 in one of the top three Canadian junior ice hockey leagues, the Western Hockey League (WHL).

history

In the summer of 1977, the Winnipeg Monarchs were relocated from Winnipeg , Manitoba , to Calgary, Alberta and renamed the Calgary Wranglers. The Wranglers filled the void caused by the relocation of the Calgary Centennials to Billings , Manitoba. The Calgary Wranglers achieved their greatest success when they reached the final of the Ed Chynoweth Cup in the 1980/81 season, in which they were defeated by the Victoria Cougars in the best-of-seven series by just 3: 4. After decreasing success - among other things, the playoffs were missed in 1985/86 and 1986/87 - the owners of the Wranglers decided to relocate the franchise and relocated it to Lethbridge , Alberta, where it has since competed in the WHL under the name Lethbridge Hurricanes .
