The Stampede Corral (also known as the Calgary Corral ) is a multi-purpose hall in Calgary , Canada . It is mainly used for ice hockey and rodeo and tennis. The hall has 6,450 seats and offers additional standing room. It is used for the annual Calgary Stampede exhibition .

history

The hall was established in 1950 to 1.25 million CAD built to house the Victoria Arena , the home stadium of the ice hockey club Calgary Stampeders to replace. It was officially opened on December 15, 1950. The first ice hockey game was held on December 26th, when the Stampeders beat the Edmonton Flyers 5-0 in front of 8,729 spectators.

The 1972 World Figure Skating Championships were held in the Stampede Corral . At the 1988 Winter Olympics , figure skating competitions and individual ice hockey games were also held in the Stampede Corral. The multi-purpose hall is also used by the Canadian Davis Cup team .

The Stampede Corral is in the immediate vicinity of the Scotiabank Saddledome .
