The Father David Bauer Olympic Arena is an ice hockey rink in Calgary , Alberta , Canada . It is located in a complex with McMahon Stadium and Foothills Stadium in close proximity to the University of Calgary .
The hall has 1750 seats and more than 2000 standing places. The stadium was named after David Bauer , an ice hockey pioneer, coach of Canada's first national team at the 1964 Winter Olympics and a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame , who later became a Catholic priest.
In the arena there is an ice rink of international size (60 m × 30 m). The adjoining hall, the Norma Bush Arena , on the other hand, has a North American ice surface (60 m × 26 m).
The stadium is used as the home of the Calgary Mustangs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League and the Calgary Dinos University team . It is also home to the Canadian ice hockey association, Hockey Canada .
With a view to the Olympic Winter Games in 1988 , extensive renovation work took place in the hall in 1985/1986, with the hall, which was then still known as Foothills Arena , being renamed after Father David Bauer . At the 1988 Winter Olympics, a total of three ice hockey games were played in the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena. It also served as a training facility for ice hockey teams and figure skaters .
In 2008 the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena and the Norma Bush Arena hosted the first U18 Women's Ice Hockey World Championship .
