Mark Greig (born January 25, 1970 in High River , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who has spent nine seasons in the National Hockey League and four in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
From 1986 to 1990 Mark Greig played in the Western Hockey League for the Calgary Wranglers and the Lethbridge Hurricanes . At the age of 20 he made his debut in the professional team of the Springfield Indians in the AHL . For the first time in the NHL he played in 1991 shortly after he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1990 by the Hartford Whalers in the first round at position 15. For the next ten years he played regularly in both the minor leagues and the NHL. He played his best season personally in 2000/01 as a top scorer (88 scorer points) with the Philadelphia Phantoms in the AHL and with two scorer points in seven NHL games for the Philadelphia Flyers .
After twelve years as a professional in North America, Greig moved to the Hamburg Freezers in Germany for the 2003/04 season , where he played very successfully alongside Brad Purdie and played his 1000th game on October 24, 2004. The following year he was in the squad of the relegated Kassel Huskies , in the 2005/06 season he wore the jersey of the Iserlohn Roosters , where he again ran together with Brad Purdie, and was one of the top performers in the storm. His contract was therefore extended for the 2006/07 season , in which he took over the captaincy . After that season, Greig retired as a pro and accepted an offer from the Philadelphia Flyers to work in the scouting field.
