Mark Douglas Tinordi (born May 9, 1966 in Red Deer , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 728 games for the New York Rangers , Minnesota North Stars , Dallas Stars and Washington Capitals in the course of his active career between 1987 and 1999 has played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . Tinordi celebrated his greatest career success in the jersey of the Canadian national team when he won the Canada Cup in 1991 . His sons Jarred and Matt are also ice hockey players.

Career

Tinordi played for the Lethbridge Broncos and Calgary Wranglers between 1982 and 1987 during his junior years . While he was with the Broncos in his rookie season the President's Cup won, he received in his final WHL season, which he completed at the Wranglers, a call to the East First All-Star team in the league.

Ungedraftet signed Tinordi in January 1987 a contract with the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League and moved in the spring after the end of the WHL season playing professionally. There the defender first played for the New Haven Nighthawks in the American Hockey League and the Colorado Rangers in the International Hockey League , while he only came sporadically to the New York Rangers in the NHL. The Rangers and Tinordis parted ways in October 1988 when he was given to the Minnesota North Stars together with Paul Jerrard , the transfer rights to Bret Barnett and Mike Sullivan and a third-round vote in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft . In return, Brian Lawton , Igor Liba and the transfer rights to Eric Bennett moved to New York.

With the Minnesota North Stars , Tinordi became home for the next five years. He reached the final of the Stanley Cup with the team in the spring of 1991 , where it was defeated by the Pittsburgh Penguins 2: 4 despite a 2-1 lead after games. The following season Tinordi was named 14th and final team captain of the franchise , after the previous captain Curt Giles was no longer in the squad. He also received an invitation to the 1992 NHL All-Star Game . With the move to Dallas, Texas and the renaming to Dallas Stars , a new chapter followed, which for the Canadian only lasted until January 1995. Despite remaining as captain of the new club, he was transferred to the Washington Capitals together with Rick Mrozik shortly before the beginning of the late beginning of the 1994/95 NHL season , who gave Kevin Hatcher in exchange .

With the capital city the defender spent another four and a half years, in which he again reached the Stanley Cup final in 1998, but was also often plagued by injuries. After he was only able to play 48 games in the 1998/99 season and was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999 NHL Expansion Draft in June 1999 , he ended his career.

International

Tinordi represented his native Canada at the 1991 Canada Cup . The defender was used in three of the eight games of his team, in which he remained pointless and received two penalty minutes. At the end of the tournament he won the gold medal with the Canadians.
