The Chilliwack Bruins were an ice hockey team based in Chilliwack , British Columbia . The team played in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League from 2006 to 2011 . The home games were played in the Prospera Center .
history
In 2005 the owners of Tri-City Americans tried to relocate the team to Chilliwack. However, this was rejected by the WHL officials. The then owners then sold their shares in the Americans to set up a new franchise in Chilliwack. As a result, the Chilliwack Chiefs, previously based in Chilliwack, had to move to Langley . The team started with head coach Jim Hiller in its premiere season, in which it reached the playoffs with a record of 25 wins and 40 losses and was defeated by the Vancouver Giants in the first round . The best scorers for the Bruins in the 2006/07 season were Mark Santorelli , Oscar Möller and Josh Aspenlind . In their second season, the team improved especially in the offensive area, with Mark Santorelli as the first and only player in the team's history to exceed the 100 point mark.
Again, the Bruins made it into the finals, where they met the Vancouver Giants for the second time in a row and were defeated in the best-of-seven series with a sweep , with all four encounters ending with a goal difference. After various top performers such as Mark Santorelli, Oscar Möller, Brandon Campos and Nick Holden had left the team for the 2008/09 season , the worst season in team history followed. With only 45 points from 72 games, the playoffs were missed and Ryan Howse as top scorer came to a balance of 44 scorer points. As a result, head coach Jim Hiller was dismissed and Marc Habscheid was hired as his successor. Habscheid stood behind the gang without interruption in the following two seasons and reached the final round with the team, in which the Chilliwack Bruins failed again in the first round.
In April 2011, the WHL announced the sale of the franchise and its move to Victoria , British Columbia for the 2011/12 season .
