Michael Wüstenberg (born July 19, 1954 in Dortmund ) is a German clergyman , missionary and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Aliwal in South Africa .

Life

Pope Benedict XVI appointed Wüstenberg on December 19, 2007 as Bishop of Aliwal. He received his episcopal ordination from the Apostolic Nuncio for South Africa and Botswana, Archbishop James Patrick Green , on February 24, 2008 in the Aliwal Stadium; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Bloemfontein, Jabulani Adatus Nxumalo OMI, and his predecessor Fritz Lobinger . His emblem "Scarlet - white as snow" is chosen with reference to Isaiah 1:18: "If your sins are also red as scarlet, they should be white as snow."

On September 1, 2017, Pope Francis accepted his resignation, which had been declared for health reasons. Wüstenberg then returned to Germany and took an apartment in Hildesheim. In the meantime he is active in the diocese of Hildesheim as emeritus diocesan bishop.
