With the Flames he won the Stanley Cup in 1989 .
Career
Dana Murzyn was born in Calgary and played there in his youth for the Calgary Royals , the Calgary Spurs in the Alberta Junior Hockey League and from 1983 for the Calgary Wranglers in the Western Hockey League , the highest-ranking junior league in the region. For the Wranglers he was active for two years, where he came in the 1984/85 season on 92 points scorer in 72 games and as a result was appointed to the WHL (East) First All-Star Team . Then selected him in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft, the Hartford Whalers in fifth position.
Murzyn established himself straight away in the National Hockey League (NHL), completed 78 games as a rookie for the Whalers and was then elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team . Nevertheless, the defender only played for barely two and a half years in Hartford until he and Shane Churla were handed over to the Calgary Flames in January 1988 and thus returned to his hometown. In return, the Whalers received Neil Sheehy , Carey Wilson and the rights to Lane MacDonald . At the end of his first full season in Calgary, the Canadian won with the Flames to the Stanley Cup the year 1989 .
Just a year and a half later, the Flames transferred him to the Vancouver Canucks in March 1991 and received Ronnie Stern and Kevan Guy in return . In Vancouver, Murzyn then spent eight years and thus most of his NHL career. He also reached the Stanley Cup final with the Canucks in 1994 again, but lost to the New York Rangers in seven games. After the defender had missed a large part of the 1997/98 season due to a knee injury and was partly used in the following year for the Canucks farm team , the Syracuse Crunch , in the American Hockey League (AHL), he ended his active role after the 1998/99 season Career. In total, Murzyn had completed over 900 NHL games and scored 223 points. In 2011 he was part of the Alumni Games at the NHL Heritage Classic .
