The Soester EG ( Soester ice hockey association "Die Bördeindianer" eV ) is an ice hockey club from Soest , North Rhine-Westphalia , which was founded on December 5, 1996. The home games of Soester EG are played in the Möhnesee ice sports center, which can hold around 1,100 spectators .

history

After the senior team of the ESC Soest was canceled against their will, 12 players founded the Soester EG on December 5, 1996 under the leadership of Burkhard Höcker. On March 25, 1997, Soester EG was officially entered in the register of associations at the Soest District Court. This was followed by the inclusion in the city sports association and district sports association Soest as well as in the state ice sports association (LEV). In August 1997, the promise was made that training and games would be held at the Möhnesee ice sports center in the future. This meant that nothing stood in the way of participation in regular gaming operations in the association. The first game in the district league was won 8: 6 against EC Lünen 1b in front of over 200 spectators . At that time, Soester EG was the only senior team from Soest in official league operations.

In January 2001 we started to build our own junior department. In 2001 Soest took third place in the regional league of North Rhine-Westphalia and was the only team that was able to defeat the regional league champion EJ Dorsten .

In 2002 Soest took 2nd place in the regional league NRW Group 1, just one point behind the table leader EEC Eschweiler . In the play-offs for the national league against the Königsborner JEC , the game in Soest was canceled by the operator of the ice sports center in the 50th minute when the score was 5: 6 because a public ice skating time was pending. Soest lost the second leg in Unna with 1: 3. The abandonment of the game caused the Soester EG game to be moved from Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. to Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m.

The regional league NRW 2004/05 was one of the most exciting ever with Soest participation. Up until the last match day, the Bördeindians fought with Kristall Lippstadt and Lippe-Hockey-Hamm for the promotion places . In the end Lippstadt made the race and became district league champion, Soest was only 3rd and had to compete in the district league again.

2005/06 season - the first ascent in the club's history

Home game of Soester EG

The NRW League Cup was held for the first time this season. Clubs from the association, state and district leagues took part in this knockout tournament. With the EC Siegerland, the Soestern one league was drawn. The sensation was all the greater when EC Siegerland could be defeated 7: 4 in their own hall. Now warned about the Soester EG, the EC Siegerland won the second leg 3-1. The winner had to be determined by a penalty shoot-out, which EC Siegerland won. Despite the defeat, Soester EG gained a lot of self-confidence from the cup games and was also able to convince in the league. The Neuss EV Ib was the overwhelming power in the district league season, but it was enough for Soest to 2nd place, which entitled the Bördeindians for relegation games with the EC Lünen for promotion to the state league. After Soest defeated EC Siegerland Ib with 26: 3 in the last competitive game of the league and achieved the highest victory in the club's history, the relegation games were now on. But this did not take place, because the EC Lünen withdrew and the Soester EG celebrated promotion to the state league NRW without a fight.

In the first season of the Landesliga NRW, the Bördeindians reached 4th place. In the subsequent Landesliga-Pokal Soest finished 5th out of 8 participating teams. With the 2nd place in the Landesliga NRW season 2007/08, Soester EG qualified for the Association League Cup. Here Soest only reached the penultimate place and could only record two wins in ten games.

2008/09 season - promotion to the association league

Game scene against Kristall Lippstadt

This season the Soester EG entered the Landesliga NRW Group B, since the Dorstener EJ withdrew his team, a total of only 4 teams took part. Soester EG fought for the championship title with Kristall Lippstadt. The Bördeindianer defeated Kristall Lippstadt in the last league game in front of 1,100 spectators at the Möhnesee ice sports center with Christian Sprenger's winning goal, 3 seconds before the end of the game, and were therefore in first place in a final table for the first time in the club's history. In the following association league cup Soest reached the 3rd place in the table, which entitled to promotion to the association league.

In the first year Verbandsliga NRW Soest found himself in the lower third of the table and fought to stay in the league. Theoretically, Soest would have relegated to the association league again, but by merging the association and state league to form the NRW league, there were no relegations that year. In the NRW League 2010/11 Soest finished 8th out of 11 clubs. In contrast to previous years, this season was not divided into a main and cup round due to the large number of participants.

When only 7 clubs competed in the NRW League in the 2011/12 season, the main and cup rounds were reintroduced. In the main round Soest took 5th place, in the following cup round Soester EG was able to secure first place with 8 wins from 8 games.

2012/13 season - promotion to the regional league

9 teams competed in the NRW League this year. Soester EG took second place, level on points behind Aachener EV, which was already insolvent during the season . Since Aachen played all the games, the championship was recognized. Aachen no longer competed in the Regionalliga Cup. This reduced the number of participants to 7 teams, of which the first 4 reached the athletic qualification for the regional league. The Soester EG took third place at the end of the season and was promoted to the Regionalliga West. Due to the rise of Soester EG, regional league ice hockey is played again in Soest after 22 years (then ESC Soest).

In the 2013/14 season, Soester EG achieved relegation in the Regionalliga West. In the main round Soest occupied 7th place in the table out of 9 teams and in the following round of placement for the Regionalliga Cup, 3rd place out of 5 teams. In the cup round, Soest was eliminated from the Dortmund Eisadler (NRW League champions) after two defeats. Also in the 2014/15 season, the Soester EG was able to secure the sporting league, this was possible through a waiver of the Bitburger ESV . The normally due relegation games did not take place. In the championship round Soest took the last place in the table and achieved only 3 wins and one draw from 28 games.

In addition to the first team, the club includes a Bambini, a junior, a youth and a traditional team.

Women's team

From 2011 to 2014, Soester EG also offered women the opportunity to play ice hockey in the league. The Bördeindianerinnen competed in the ladies NRW league. The women's team was initially no longer registered for league operations from the 2014/15 season.

Trivia

  • With the ESC Soest founded in 1970 and the Soester EG founded in 1996, the city of Soest has two ice hockey clubs. This makes Soest one of the oldest NRW ice hockey locations without a single bankruptcy.
  • In Kristall Lippstadt, Soester EG has a rival from its own district. Soester EG's record of 1,100 spectators was set in a game against Kristall Lippstadt in 2008.
