The EC Dorsten was an ice hockey club from Dorsten in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

In the autumn of 1986 the EC Dorsten started playing in the district league. Although the Dorstener were bottom of the table, a decision at the Green Table made it possible for them to be promoted to the state league . The strengthened team missed another athletic promotion in 1988 just behind the EHC Münster . Again, the Dorsten benefited from a decision at the Green Table and the club played in the NRW League from 1988. There the team was third and qualified for the relegation to Regionalliga West , where the promotion finally succeeded. In 1991 he was promoted to the Oberliga Nord . The highlight of the season was the game at the Frankfurt ESC in front of 6000 spectators. Although the Dorstener were able to keep the sporty class, financial problems and declining audience numbers forced the club to voluntarily withdraw into the NRW League.

There the Dorsten runners-up behind EV Duisburg and made it to the Regionalliga Nord in the following qualifying round. There the team finished seventh in the 1993/94 season and reached the qualifying round for the Oberliga Nord. But again the club got into financial difficulties despite high attendance numbers. After the team had not started shortly before the end of the qualifying round, the team was excluded from the game. Subsequently, the EC Dorsten was dissolved.

Successor club EJ Dorsten

The club EJ Dorsten with the nickname The Wolves was founded as the successor club . In the first season, the club only offered junior ice hockey. In the 1995/1996 season a senior team started again, which was divided into the NRW League. As third in the table, the team qualified for the relegation to the 2nd League North, where the Dorstener were only penultimate. After a league reform, the Dorstener played in the Regionalliga West from 1998, where the club won the Regionalliga Cup in 1999 with two final victories against the Kölner Junghaie . The following season 1999/2000 was to be the most successful in the club's history. First, the wolves were runner-up in the regional league behind the Herford EC and finished fourth in the subsequent finals of the northern German regional leagues.

At the end of the season, the successful team fell apart. In the following 2000/2001 season, the league was just barely successful, but the club withdrew its team to the district league. Deliberately, the Dorsteners secured the championship and rose to the state league, where the wolves immediately became runner-up behind the EHC Wesel . Also in the association league season 2003/2004 the Dorstener were runner-up, this time behind the EHC Troisdorf . After these three ascents in a row, the Dorstener were back in the regional league. There the team had no sporting chance, and quarrels about the board of directors dominated the action. On January 30, 2005, the EJ Dorsten went to the last game in the club's history against the ESC Trier before the club was dissolved.
