Kimmo Kapanen (born September 12, 1974 in Vantaa ) is a former Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper who has spent 13 seasons in the SM-liiga and five in the Elitserien . In Germany he played for a year in the German Ice Hockey League . After the end of his career, he worked as a goalkeeping coach and manager for KalPa Kuopio .

Career

Kimmo Kapanen started his career in 1989 at the age of 15 at KalPa Kuopio . There he played for the junior team and also came to some missions in the SM-liiga . In 1994 the Finn moved to HIFK Helsinki , where he stayed for two years. The 1996/97 season he spent with the Espoo Blues , for which he came to 20 missions behind goalkeeper Iiro Itämies . Kapanen then moved back to KalPa Kuopio for two years. He played most of the games and finished both years with his team on the bottom of the table. While the relegation was achieved in the first year, Kapanen and his team rose from the SM-liiga in the second year. He then switched to HPK Hämeenlinna . There he qualified with his team for the playoffs , in which they were eliminated in the semifinals, but won the game for third place. Kapanen also played for HPK the next year.

For the 2001/02 season , Kapanen moved to the Iserlohn Roosters in the German Ice Hockey League . There he played twelve games before asking for the termination of his contract in December 2001. The rest of the season he was active for Timrå IK from the Swedish Elitserien . He stayed with the Red Eagles until 2005 and then returned to Kuopio again. His last season was the 2007/08 season when he played for Ässät Pori . He then had to end his career due to an injury.

family

Kimmo Kapanen is the brother of Sami Kapanen , with whom he played for KalPa Kuopio from 1989 to 1994 . Her father Hannu Kapanen was also a professional ice hockey player and trained her in the 1993/94 season at Kuopio. His nephew Kasperi Kapanen does the same sport.
