Scott Wesley Hartnell (born April 18, 1982 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . The left winger played a total of 1,348 games for the Nashville Predators , Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League between 2000 and 2018 .
Career
The 1.83 m tall striker began his career with the Prince Albert Raiders in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League before he was selected ( drafted ) by the Predators in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft as sixth in the first round .
Nashville Predators (2000-2007)
As early as the 2000/01 season , the left-shot was part of the NHL squad in Nashville, for which he was able to score two goals and 14 assists in his first 75 games . At the age of 18, he was the youngest player to ever appear in a league game for the Predators. In the coming seasons too, Hartnell was mostly part of the fourth row in the team's NHL regulars. During the lockout - 2004/05 was the Canadians for the Norwegian UPC ligaen -Club Vålerenga IF on the ice, with which he, together with other NHL players such as Chris Mason and Travis Brigley , the Norwegian championship won.
During the 2005/06 season Hartnell scored 25 goals and 23 assists and thus 48 points, a new personal record, but was criticized several times by his coach Barry Despite being too ineffective. Scott Hartnell was also known for his often exaggerated toughness, with 101 penalty minutes he received the second most penalties on his team during the 2005/06 season. Also in the 2006/07 season he drew criticism for his tough game. In the first playoff game against the San Jose Sharks he received a game misconduct penalty after his opponent was injured and in the next game he was involved in a brawl, which is why he received one major penalty and two game misconduct penalties, which were repeated the next day were withdrawn.
Philadelphia Flyers (2007-2014)
When it was decided to sell the team at the end of the season, there was long uncertainty about the budget available for the following season. Knowing that Hartnell's contract extension would be very difficult, the Predators transferred him to the Philadelphia Flyers , who gave him a $ 25.2 million six-year contract. In the game against the Atlanta Thrashers in January 2007, the Canadian scored the 100th goal of his career. Only two days later he managed the first hat trick of his professional career, so he scored three goals in a 6-2 win against the New York Rangers . In the 2008/09 season Hartnell completed his hitherto best-scoring season, in which he scored a total of 60 points scorer in 82 NHL games. In December 2008, he achieved two hat tricks in two games within nine days.
The 2009/10 season was less successful for the left-handed shooter, so he could only achieve 44 scorer points in the main round. Hartnell improved in the play-offs and was instrumental in an attacking formation with Daniel Brière and Ville Leino in the Flyers' entry into the Stanley Cup final . At the side of Briere and Leino, Hartnell also presented himself in the following season with a strong attack, marking 24 goals and 25 assists. In December 2011 he scored his 200th goal in the NHL in the game against the Washington Capitals . The Canadian finished the 2001/12 season with a total of 37 league goals and thus achieved a personal record in his career to date. In the following season he could not build on these performances and had to fight some injuries, so he only scored 11 points and missed the play-offs with the Flyers .
Columbus, return to Nashville and retired (2014-2018)
In June 2014, the Flyers gave Hartnell to the Columbus Blue Jackets , which in turn transferred RJ Umberger and a four-round vote for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft to Philadelphia. On February 9, 2015, the Canadian completed his 1,000th game in the NHL. In June 2017, however, the Blue Jackets paid him out of his remaining two contract years (buy-out) , so that from then on he was looking for a new employer as a free agent , which he found on July 1, 2017 in the form of his former team in Nashville Predators found. There he signed a one-year contract that was not renewed in the summer of 2018.
As a result, Hartnell officially announced the end of his active career in October 2018. He has played a total of 1348 games in the NHL and scored 754 points.
International
For the Canadian national ice hockey team , Scott Hartnell was on the ice at the 2006 World Cup , in which Team Canada lost 5-0 to Finland in the bronze medal game and thus finished fourth.
