Ayata is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Ayata is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Ayata in the province of Muñecas . The small settlement Ayata is located at an altitude of 2705 m in a deeply cut valley on the left bank of a left tributary of the Río Llica , which flows over the Río Mapiri to the Río Beni .

Ayata is located at an average altitude of 4000 m east of Lake Titicaca and is part of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central . The region's climate is typical of the time of day , with temperatures differing more during the day than during the year.
The mean annual temperature of the region is 9.4 ° C (see Ayata climate diagram), the monthly values fluctuate between 7 ° C in June / July and just under 11 ° C in November / December. The long-term mean annual precipitation is 800 mm, and while the winter months of June and July are arid with less than 10 mm monthly precipitation, the summer months from December to March reach values of 100 to 140 mm.
Transport network
Ayata is located at a distance of 275 kilometers by road northwest of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.
From La Paz the asphalted highway Ruta 2 leads 70 kilometers north to Huarina , from there the Ruta 16 via Achacachi and Puerto Carabuco for a further 95 kilometers on largely unpaved roads to Escoma . From there the Ruta 16 branches off in a northeasterly direction and leads via Mocomoco to Chuma and on to Ayata .

Due to the historical population development at the interface between the Aymara and Quechua populations, 56.1 percent of the population in the Municipio Ayata speak the Quechua language and 43.3 percent speak the Aymara language ; Spanish is only 25 percent of the population's main national language spoken.
