Chuma is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Chuma is the administrative seat of the province of Muñecas and the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Chuma on the upper reaches of a tributary to the Río Llica , which flows over the Río Mapiri to the Río Beni . The village lies at an altitude of 3500  m between the edge of the mountain ranges of the Bolivian Cordillera Apolobamba .

Chuma is located on the Bolivian Altiplano on the western edge of the Cordillera Real . The climate of the region is a typical time of day climate , in which the temperature fluctuations during the day are more pronounced than during the year.

The mean average temperature of the village is almost 14 ° C (see climate diagram Mocomoco), the monthly mean temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 11 ° C in June / July and 15 ° C from October to March. The annual precipitation is around 750 mm, the monthly precipitation is between under 20 mm from July to August and 100-150 mm from December to March.

Transport network

Chuma is located 245 kilometers by road north of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.

From La Paz, the paved national road Ruta 2 leads 70 kilometers north to Huarina , from there Ruta 16 via Achacachi and Puerto Carabuco for a further 95 kilometers on largely unpaved roads to Puerto Acosta . From there, a track branches off in a north-easterly direction and leads via Huilacala and Mocomoco to Chuma .

About fifteen kilometers east of Chuma are the ruins of Iskanwaya near the village of Aucapata, which date from the first millennium AD and are ascribed to the Mollo culture .
