Chuma is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Chuma is the administrative seat of the province of Muñecas and the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Chuma on the upper reaches of a tributary to the Río Llica , which flows over the Río Mapiri to the Río Beni . The village lies at an altitude of 3500 m between the edge of the mountain ranges of the Bolivian Cordillera Apolobamba .

Chuma is located on the Bolivian Altiplano on the western edge of the Cordillera Real . The climate of the region is a typical time of day climate , in which the temperature fluctuations during the day are more pronounced than during the year.
The mean average temperature of the village is almost 14 ° C (see climate diagram Mocomoco), the monthly mean temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 11 ° C in June / July and 15 ° C from October to March. Chuma is located 245 kilometers by road north of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.
From La Paz, the paved national road Ruta 2 leads 70 kilometers north to Huarina , from there Ruta 16 via Achacachi and Puerto Carabuco for a further 95 kilometers on largely unpaved roads to Puerto Acosta . From there, a track branches off in a north-easterly direction and leads via Huilacala and Mocomoco to Chuma .
tourism
About fifteen kilometers east of Chuma are the ruins of Iskanwaya near the village of Aucapata, which date from the first millennium AD and are ascribed to the Mollo culture .
