The Ruta 16 is a national road in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Routing

The road has a length of 1036 kilometers and crosses northwest Bolivia in a south-north direction, from Lake Titicaca in the Andean highlands to the Río Acre on the Brazilian border. The road crosses the departments of La Paz and Pando , within the department of La Paz, a junction of Route 16 leads to San Buenaventura on the Río Beni . The road begins in the south at Huarina on the highway Ruta 2 , leaves the high mountains after about 300 kilometers and ends in the north in the city of Porvenir , where it meets the highway Ruta 13 .

The southern section of the road is paved for the first hundred kilometers, the rest of the route in the northern lowlands consists of gravel and dirt roads. The Apolo - Tumupasa route is still being planned, as is the route from Ixiamas via Alto Madidi to Chivé.

The Ruta 16 was declared part of the Bolivian national road network " Red Vial Fundamental " by decree 25.134 of August 31, 1998 .
