San Buenaventura (also San Buena Ventura ) is a country town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

San Buenaventura is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) San Buenaventura in the province of Abel Iturralde . It is located at an altitude of 213  m on the left bank of the Río Beni , the border river to the Beni department , opposite the small town of Rurrenabaque . To the west of the city rises the mountain range of the Sierra de Manuque , which belongs to the eastern foothills of the Andean chain of the Cordillera Oriental .

geography

San Buenaventura is located on the western edge of the Moxos plain , with over 100,000 km² one of the largest wetlands on earth; the predominant form of vegetation in the Moxos plain is the tropical savannah . The climate in the San Buena Ventura / Rurrenabaque region is tropically hot and humid all year round, but it can also get relatively cool in winter due to the Surazo (cold wind from the south).

The annual precipitation is almost 2000 mm (see climate diagram Rurrenabaque), with monthly precipitation of about 300 mm in January and February, and less than 100 mm in the months of August to September. The average monthly temperatures are between 23 ° C and 28 ° C all year round.

Transport network

San Buenaventura is 115 kilometers by road southeast of the provincial capital Ixiamas and about 450 kilometers north of La Paz , the capital of the department.

In Buenaventura, a branch of the 1,036-kilometer-long national road Ruta 16 , which is still largely planned, ends in Buenaventura , which will lead from Porvenir near the Brazilian border in the northwest to Huarina on the southeast edge of Lake Titicaca . The Ruta 16 passes on their way to the provincial capital Ixiamas , from the dirt of a 115-kilometer highway through Tumupasa to San Buenaventura leads.
