Abel Iturralde is the northernmost and largest province of the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia . It bears its name in honor of the Bolivian politician Abel Iturralde Palacios .

location

The province lies on the northern edge of the Bolivian Cordillera Central and is bounded in the west by the Río Madre de Dios and Río Heath and in the east by the Río Beni . The province borders on the Pando Department in the north, the Republic of Peru in the west, the Franz Tamayo Province in the south , and the Beni Department in the east .

The province extends between about 11 ° 48 'and 14 ° 35' south latitude and 66 ° 55 'and 69 ° 05' west longitude, its extension from west to east is 200 kilometers, from north to south 300 kilometers.

87.0 percent of the population are Catholic , 10.6 percent are Protestant (1992) .
